The Irish Golden Visa was established in 2012 to allow wealthy individuals and families from outside the European Union to obtain residency in Ireland in exchange for making an approved investment in the Irish economy. In order to be eligible for an Irish Golden Visa, a candidate must:

#1 Have a legally accumulated personal wealth of at least €2 million. 

#2 Have good character.

#3 Have no criminal convictions anywhere in the world. 

Before a visa is officially granted, evidence must be submitted to the Irish government that a qualifying investment has been made in accordance with the programme's rules. 

Only investments officially approved by the Irish Immigrant Investor Programme will qualify an individual and their family for residence in Ireland. There are four investment option categories for potential investors.

  1. Enterprise Investment – A minimum of €1 million invested in an Irish enterprise for a period of at least 3 years

  2. Investment Fund – A minimum of €1 million invested in an approved investment fund for a period of at least 3 years. Such funds must be approved and regulated by the Irish Central Bank

  3. Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) – A minimum investment of €2 million in any Irish REIT that is listed on the Irish Stock Exchange, for a period of at least 3 years.

  4. Endowment – A minimum €500,000 philanthropic donation to a project which is of public benefit to the arts, sports, health, culture or education in Ireland. The may potentially be reduced to €400,000 if part of a group of 5 or more.
